Sometimes Cheating Is

Soooooo Good!!

Vernon R. Heard

Sometimes cheating just feels good.  You know it’s wrong but the charge of doing something decadent and getting away with it can be a bit of a rush.  Sometimes you just have to get what you feel you need when you feel you need it, ya know?

I don’t actually declare myself one of the throngs that are perpetually dieting.  Maybe I should, but I don’t.  J  I know tons of people who leap from one failed diet to another, beating themselves up every step of the way for their perceived shortcoming.  It’s hard to stay committed and on track when you’re doing something, anything, that you don’t really enjoy.  That’s why cheating comes so highly recommended.

WHAT I DO RIGHT

That said, I do try to eat somewhat healthy.  Not a diet, per se, but plenty of fish and chicken, very little beef and pork, lots of vegetables, fruits high in antioxidants, etc.  I find strength in passing up the “Bigger Than Your Head Burrito” at Miguel’s on Memorial Drive and getting grilled fish tacos instead.  Its kinda cool to pass when someone pops into your office with “Hey, I brought doughnuts.”

I walk a lot with my dog, Penelope.  Since I’m the owner of a high energy mutt who it’s recommended gets walked regularly, I’ve incorporated that requirement into my exercise need.  I walk a mile or so a few evenings a week at the dog park.  Kills two birds with one stone and the solitude is awesome.

WHAT I DO WRONG

The thing that really keeps me focused on doing the right thing is cheating here and there.  A periodic Peanut Buster Parfait, (extra peanuts please, thank you) or the catfish fillet dinner with a side of shrimp and double macaroni salad, at Family Fish on Avalon in Carson, CA, every once in a while makes staying, on track worthwhile.  A pat on the back and the belly.  LOL.

I don’t do binges but I will give myself something delicious and reckless every once in a while.   Clean living around the clock is great for those who can do it solely and I don’t condone my regimen for anyone other than myself, but it works for me.  I’ve found something that I’m comfy with and helps me feel like I’m keeping my overall health in focus. Granted, I won’t be coming out of my shirt in any music videos anytime soon, but I’m good.

As long as I know I’m sticking to getting exercise and not overeating I will see Baskin-Robbins at some point.  I love me and the skin I’m in so I’m going to take care of myself and, most importantly, be happy.  If that means cheating on the salad bar every once in a while, that’s what it’s gonna be.

Love yourself.

Reward yourself.

Don’t overdo it.
