DR. SEBI

CELL FOOD IS THE NEW SOUL FOOD

A PROFILE ON HERBALIST & NUTRITIONIST DR. SEBI

Dr. Sebi, a native Honduran who refers to himself as an intracellular therapist and herbalist, claims an organic, vegan, largely raw diet will cleanse your cells of toxins and cure diseases. He founded the USHA Healing Village in Honduras to help teach his ideas about dietary and herbal therapy. Sebi came to the United States as a self-educated man who was diagnosed with asthma, diabetes, impotency, and obesity. After not being able to be treated successfully by conventional doctors he was taken to an herbalist in Mexico and was cured. This was the incident that led to Dr. Sebi’s later success as an herbalist himself.

Some proponents say Sebi's diet has enhanced their health.  Dr. Sebi uses a large variety of different plants to get address the negative effects of diseases. Sebi has multiple products that all deal with different diseases/conditions. One of the most important details Dr. Stebi states about these products is they work best when eating foods from the his nutritional guide.  Dr. Sebi has recommended several that he believes have helped the reversal of disease for over 30 years.

As well as playing a major role in the war to stop diseases, Dr. Sebi tours extensively to lecture and share his insight on how to live healthy and his definition of a happy life.

Basic Dietary Guidelines
Dr. Sebi divides all foods into six categories: live, raw, dead, hybrid, genetically modified or drugs. His diet emphasizes live and raw foods, which he terms "electric foods."

According to Dr. Sebi, these foods are alkaline and can help heal the body of the effects of "dead" or supposedly acidic foods, which include all meat, poultry, seafood, products containing a leavening agent like yeast, synthetic or processed items, alcohol, sugar, iodized salt or anything fried.

On Dr. Sebi's plan, you avoid all seedless fruits, insect- or weather-resistant crops like corn or certain tomatoes, and anything with added vitamins or minerals. Instead, you eat plain ripe fruit; non-starchy vegetables, especially leafy greens; raw nuts and nut butters; and grains like quinoa, rye or kamut.

The Hard Road
For as many staunch followers of Dr. Sebi’s concepts around the world, there are detractors who would defame Dr. Sebi in one breath and attempt to imitate or impersonate him in another.  Dr. Sebi’s website www.drsebiscellfood.com now shows a video disclaimer to state\prove that he is the REAL Dr. Sebi, that he is alive, sane and still operating and running his affairs. Further, Dr. Sebi was arrested in 1987 because his USHA Research Institute in NY placed an advertisement in the Amsterdam News claiming to cure AIDS, sickle cell, lupus, and other diseases.  He was charged with practicing medicine without a license among other things.  Dr. Sebi’s case went all the way to the NY Supreme Court where he won by providing witnesses, past patients and documentation of successful cases where clients diagnosed medical conditions were reversed or cured.

THE CONS AND PROS OF DR. SEBI’S DIET RECOMMENDATIONS

Because the Sebi diet strictly reduces or eliminates whole categories of food, you may become deficient in essential nutrients like iron, calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B-12 and omega-3 fatty acids unless you plan your daily diet extremely carefully and consume dietary supplements regularly. Sebi claims that his diet works because it's not germs that cause illness and infection, but a buildup of mucus that can only be rectified by his advised alkaline plan. There is no research to support the idea that mucus cleansing cures disease, and Sebi, who was not medically trained, does not offer any clinical test results, only anecdotal evidence. Even if you do start the plan, it may be hard to maintain around friends or family members who don't have the same dietary restrictions.

People who switch from a standard American diet that's high in fat, saturated fat, processed and fast foods, refined grains and sugar to Sebi's diet will almost certainly lose weight. The increased intake of fruits, vegetables and whole grains paired with the elimination of red meats like beef and pork may also significantly decrease the risk of cancer, heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol. Most Americans consume too much sodium; Sebi's diet might lower the amount you consume dramatically, thereby lowering your blood pressure and reducing your stroke and heart disease risk.
