…is the state of being that a new year gives to each and every one of us. Or at least that’s what we sell ourselves. This year is MY year is what I proclaim at the start of a new year. If anybody asked, I would rattle off a bullet point list of all I wanted to accomplish, well at the very least attempt to do. Fortunately, the missteps of last year are now –so fresh and so clean this New Year. So, I will remix some of those unfulfilled attempts into real accomplishments. Now, keeping so fresh and living so clean in the New Year can pose a challenge for

some, even though we have the opportunity and god given pass to start anew. Some of us fall victim to behaviors that don’t smell so fresh, and don’t look so clean. For instance- letting that sorry  woman back in your life to wreck shop once again. You swore it was done and over. No more of her dramatic antics, and you were tired of her using you with all the game playing. This New Year was just the excuse you needed to end  it for good. You woke up January 1st so fresh and so clean; she’s out of here, thank goodness! But here she is knocking at your door after being MIA the night before, asking if she could come in and explain. Or, picking up a cigarette after you quit. You even promised your kids you wouldn’t smoke any more but they can smell it on you no matter how hard to try to hide it, here you go again. You’re still not speaking to your mother for the 2nd New Year in a row. You told yourself you would tell her how it makes you feel when she says something hurtful, and she just did again and you’ve said nothing. You promised your baby’s mother that you would be there more for your son, but you’ve just sent her call to voicemail because this weekend isn’t good. You forgot you had made plans to meet this new chick and wanted to see what’s poppin.

This New Year like every other should start with you checking yourself in the mirror, if you dare. Holding yourself accountable for the missteps and avoidances made. Acknowledging and admitting to those you’ve hurt that you’ve made mistakes and will take responsible steps to ensure you don’t make the same mistake twice. To those that have hurt you, you say no more. You will make a different choice when it comes to dealing with them and the hurt. Let this New Year bring all the blessings we can possible stand, all the life lessons that strengthen us to be better versions of who we are.

God willing we will all have a year that’s so fresh and so clean. As for me, myself, I will strive to not stay dirty.
